Upon receiving MARAD approval of its $35 million acquisition of New York-based Farrell Lines, P&O Nedlloyd wasted no time announcing service changes to Farrell's U.S.-Mediterranean service.
The new service will be called the Farrell Mediterranean Express Service (Famex). The weekly service, which will be faster than Farrell's current eight to nine day schedule, will employ five of Farrell's U.S.-flag ships and one Hapag-Lloyd vessel.
The Farrell ships are from 1,900 to 2,400 TEUs and the non-U.S.-flag Hapag Lloyd vessel is roughly 2,000 TEUs.
The Famex service's rotation, which begins in August, will be: New York-New Jersey; Norfolk, Va. or Baltimore; Charleston or Savannah, S.C.; Lisbon, Portugal, Cadiz or Algeciras, Spain; Malta or Gioia Tauro, Italy; Alexandria, Haifa, Izmir, Malta or Gioia Tauro, Naples or Salerno; Livorno or La Spezia, Cadiz or Algeciras; and New York-New Jersey.
