ANZDL moving faster with "A-commerce"

In the last issue of Marine Digest(June 2000) we spoke to three third party e-shipping providers concerning the expansion of online offerings into the global logistics management arena. The article mentioned we'd be talking to companies that prefer to insource rather than outsource e-commerce needs (refer to the APL Logistics article in the March 2000 issue). Ocean carrier Australia New Zealand Direct Line (ANZDL) has been at the forefront of Internet technology as far back as 1996, with its sailing schedules coming online as early as 1997 (which is now ancient history in the e-shipping timeline).

Currently, at www.anzdl.com, registered customers can, under the banner the steamship line terms "A-Commerce," make bookings, print bills of lading, trace cargo, look up customized reports and request rates.

"We started taking transactions online in the third quarter of 1998 with cargo tracing. We then commenced bill of lading printing in 1999, and subsequently, electronic booking in early 2000," said Marc Boyer-Chammard, ANZDL's vice president of information systems.
