Virginia International Terminals connects to eModal

Transportation web site, eModal, which bills itself as being a one-stop shop via the Internet for the marine container terminal industry, has signed up Virginia International Terminals (VIT), the terminal operations arm of the Virginia Port Authority.
Operating since 1999, the site has been providing an array of information to registered users related for container, vessel, terminal and trucker status and other intermodal news for 19 West Coast terminals in Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle and Tacoma.
      Make that 23 terminals.
According to John Cushing, eModal's founder, The VIT manages all information concerning container and booking status.
"VIT uploads this data to eModal, and we then put it out on our single-source web site. We are "webifying" what VIT is doing via fax," he said.
"They embraced the eModal single-source concept...recognized its success with the transportation community, and became the first East Coast Port with eModal."
The four new eModal-connected terminals are: Virginia Inland Port, Norfolk International Terminal, Portsmouth Marine Terminal and Newport News Marine Terminal.
As of late September, eModal claimed close to 150,000 containers were available for tracking on its system.
