• Asia Australia Discussion Agreement (AADA) member lines are to reduce their bunker surcharge to US$50 per 20-foot container and $100 per 40-foot container. Member lines say that the move, which will come into effect on March 1, is in view of recent reductions in world oil prices. AADA members include ANL, COSCO, Evergreen, HMM, Maersk Sealand, MSC, OOCL, Yang Ming, China Shipping Container Line, Fesco, Hanjin, K Line, MOL, NYK, P&O Swire Containers and Zim.

  • "K" Line has announced that it is axing both Indonesian calls, along with a Japanese call, and adding a call in the Philippines on its West Japan-South Asia service. Shimizu, Tanjung Priok and Tanjung Perak have been cut from the service, while Manila has been added. The changes will take effect southbound when Siam Bridge V96 leaves Kobe on March 20. Northbound, the changes apply when ACX Lily V55 departs Port Klang on March 24. The service is operated by three, 1,000-TEU vessels.

  • Taiwanese carriers Uniglory and Wan Hai signed an agreement to operate a joint intra-Asian service -- the first collaboration between the two lines on February 27. The service will link Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong on a weekly basis using two vessels. Uniglory will contribute the 1,618 TEU LT Peace and Wan Hai the 1,658 TEU Wan Hai 261. The service will begin with Wan Hai 261's sailing from Kaohsiung on March 3, and the port rotation will be as follows: Osaka, Kobe, Moji, Hakata, Keelung, Taichung, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Keelung, Osaka.
