Name changes arise from Sea-Land sale

The company once referred to as, simply, "Sea-Land" has now been officially splintered into different entities and titles. After the finalization of A.P. Moller/Maersk's $800 million acquisition of Sea-Land's international liner business, which included some terminal assets, Maersk Sea-Land is now an official company and will be carrying almost 12% of worldwide container capacity. Sea-Land's domestic shipping business is still owned by the CSX corporation, and has changed its name to CSX Lines, LLC.

"Our new identity, which retains the familiar red and black Sea-Land icon, reflects both Sea-Land's rich heritage and the strength of our parent company, CSX corporation," said Charles G. Raymond, president and chief executive officer.

Charlotte, N.C.-based CSX Lines will operate a fleet of 16 vessels and 27,000 containers in its services to Alaska, Guam, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

CSX World Terminals has also been created and includes international terminals not sold to A.P. Moller. There are currently nine CSX terminals operating in China, Australia, Finland, Germany, Russia and the Dominican Republic.Total revenues for both CSX companies are estimated at $1 billion.
