Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has been operational
for the past two months at the Port of Kobe, Japan. The port
reports that as a result, 70% of its application forms are now accepted via electronic means.
Electronic application features at the port now include online applications for port entry/departure procedures and warehouse
and wharf use. In addition to the Internet, other networked EDI components for various application procedures include e-mail
and fax-OCR for fax letters which are automatically processed
as data.
Additional information, including availability and charges of
port facilities, can also by accessed by Internet and fax.
The port stressed that all applications can be sent by an
ordinary personal computer. |
